We’re now over half way through the term and it’s been busy as usual here at Nant BH and Pentre . Here are a few bits of recent news :
50th Anniversary Celebrations : The open day on the 8th of October was a huge success. Since the event we have received some really positive feedback from people that came on the day . It was brilliant to see so many families here enjoying Running , Biking and Orienteering events . Also, the organised sessions in Bushcraft and High Ropes were a real hit with young and old alike. Throughout the day we were spoilt with great weather and wonderful food . Massive thanks are due to all the staff for putting in such hard work in the run up to the event and for making the day such a success.
Bookings for 2017-2018 : We’ve recently sent out booking offers for 2017/18 . We’ll be sending out new service brochures after Christmas so keep an eye for them . Don’t forget that day course bookings are a great cost-effective way of giving pupils some real adventure . Full days out from just £25 per person – call the centre for further information and to discuss planning your day .
Staff News : Some really great news to report since the last Newsletter is that Gwenda Bebbington , our brilliant Cook-in-Charge , is expecting her first child in February next year . She’ll be off from December onwards and we wish her all the very best for the exciting time ahead !
Arwel Elias has recently been appointed Chair of the Outdoor Education Advisors Panel ( Wales) . It’s great for the service to have someone in-house who has a national view of developments in Outdoor Education.
Chris Near is soon to embark on a 9 month sabbatical leave of absence. He’ll be spending most of this period in the French alps with his family and will return for the start of the academic year in September 2017.
Becky Whitehouse : Everybody knows Becky …. and Becky knows everybody (and everything !) . After 26 years at Nant BH and Pentre , Becky is about to drive off into the sunset in her new VW campervan to enjoy her well-deserved retirement. There’ll be no sitting with her feet up though – retirement “projects” have already started with walking all of the County Tops of the UK . The centres and service owe Becky huge thanks for all of her hard work over the years . She will be a tough act to follow ! Have a great retirement Becky .
Admin Team : We have recently held interviews for both Becky and Pam’s admin posts . We’re looking forward to working with the new team when they take up their posts in the next few weeks .
